Suggestions for Email and Security:

  • Select a good anti-virus program for your computer such as Norton Anti-Virus and keep it updated daily.
  • Select a good firewall program such as Black-Ice or Zone-Alarm to keep out hackers.
  • Select an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that advertises that they block spam and pop-up advertising.  One recommendation is to look for ISP's that use BrightMail anti-spam services.  Unfortunately the options are often limited in the case of cable providers to just those in your local area such as Time Warner Road Runner cable or Verizon DSL Check your connection speed here.  Cable service is definitely the way to go if you can get it in your service area since it is 10-15 times faster than dial-up Internet service.
  • For those using Microsoft Outlook, consider using Cloudmark spam filter which uses shared online database to identify and place spam in a separate folder from your inbox.
